Checking Your Rankings

Checking Your Rankings
Just wondering how people go about checking their rankings ? I use Sheerseo.com which e-mails me a daily report. I also use the firefox extension "rank checker" They are both good in their own ways, but the results sometimes differ greatly. One term im working on tells me im in position 6 (rank checker) - the other one tells me position 15.

funny think is they are both right, - if I do the search on firefox - it jives with rank checker. If i search from my cell phone - those results are inline with sheerseo.

Any thoughts ? Whats the best way to get an un-biased assessment of where the rank is ?

RE: Checking Your Rankings
It's funny but Google is biased against itself!. Different Google data centers will often show different rankings. Not only that, the rankings themselves are pretty fluid. They are subject to changing a lot.

Here are a couple of tools you can check:
http://www.webrankinfo.com/english/tools...enters.php
http://www.seologs.com/dc-rank-check.html

There are some others, you can find some more in Google (LOL)

RE: Checking Your Rankings
Yeah, they change quite frequently. I'd stick with what you are using. There will be variables in all.

RE: Checking Your Rankings
Jack's right different data centers give different results. I checked today my rankings with Ranktracker and with the firefox rank checker plugin and the results varied alot. But i find it's more useful to check your websites daily traffic statistics and not stress myself on rankings.

So far Rank Checker is rather accurate for me.

Therefore will continue to use it.

Nevertheless, good sharing.

RE: Checking Your Rankings
I usually use rank checker for FF when I want to check a lot of keywords or if I don't have a clue where the site might be ranked. Otherwise I just do it manually with the unpersonalized results add-on for FF to be sure I am not getting personalized results that aren't the true rankings.

RE: Checking Your Rankings
It would help to use these tools to check your rankings, for some reason I just never caught on to any of them.

I've always checked my SERP the "old fashioned way", typing in my keyword and then finding where my website is ranked.

Google's "star" bookmarking feature has helped me a lot in this.

When your logged into Gmail, any websites you've placed a "star" bookmark to will show up just above all the search results. If your keyword matches any of your bookmarked sites, you'll see it right on the top.

That defeats the whole purpose - The purpose of the different tools is to see what others see, and in different areas served by the different Google centers. Having your "bookmarked" terms show up on the top when logged in has no benefit.

Its like being a student and grading your own papers.

I should have wrote this differently, lol... Of course these bookmarks won't get all my sites ranked on top. If it did, this would replace backlinking and everybody would be fighting for Google bookmarks!

What I meant to say is I use this to see if my site is ranked ANYWHERE in the search results for a keyword. If a bookmark isn't visible then it's not listed.

But if I do see a bookmark on top then I know my ranking is listed in those search results, then I can decide if I want to rank my site higher for that keyword by building more backlinks for that keyword Cool

Hey Dario, I have to admit I was wondering too. LOL

That would be awesome if we could get number one rankings that way. Big Grin

How about seoserp.com
I just use google.com/ncr and then once the results are displayed append &gl=us at the end.
