New Wordpress installations
Does anyone know of a good way to copy a Wordpress setup with all plugins, settings etc and install it into a NEW domain?

Reason is that I want to save all the time installing the same plugins etc over and over.

There is a plugin called Backup Buddy but I though perhaps that there would a manual way to do this by perhaps copying the WP-content folder and config files or something?

Thanks in advance!

RE: New Wordpress installations
What I've recently done is put all my favorite plugins in a folder on my computer ready for uploading via FTP. So when I set up a new domain all I do is navigate to that folder, highlight all and upload them all at the same time.

9 to 5 Annihilation has a quick installation that installs select plugins with select settings a select theme. This is all done automatically and is really cool. Some kind of software like that would be cool to have. You could set what plugins with chosen settings, etc. and have it any way you want it.

OH, it installs Wordpress itself also.

RE: New Wordpress installations
I used to do it the same way as Jack, but it was just so slow with FTP as some of the plugin file sizes grew. Now I just maintainingg a list of plugins to be used and then simply upload them through the Wordpress admin interface from the Wordpress plugins directory - much quicker! Except for plugins that aren't included in the Wordpress repository.

I also have a text file with all the settings that need to be made for both Wordpress and the plugins!

I have used various plugins that "included" a set of preferred plugins, but unfortunately they weren't customizable and often included plugins I didn't want and did not include plugins I wanted. But I am sure there should be something around - don't know about 9 to 5 as I stayed away from it after all the bad press!

BackupBuddy is awesome! Give it a try once.

I now develop sites on localhost (using XAMPP on windows) and do a 1:1 restoration on live server (hosted by HostGator) in 5 min.

RE: New Wordpress installations
There is a Network version of Wordpress that installs and updates plugins for all your sites at the same time. It was called Wordpress MU (Multi-User) and now that Wordpress took it over it's called Wordpress MS (Muilt-Site) Or the other way around?

I install stuff all the time just for the fun of it so I installed that and added a few sites, but didn't do anything with them yet. The main Wordpress domain I used is http://www.carjobdate.com so I would remember 3 words means that's the multi-user Network site. Plus I remember growing up the rule was "No Car, No Job, No Date" and that meant No Discussion!!

I've since updated that rule to "No Transportation, No Potential, No Date"

btw - I heard the Maxblogpress.com is supposed to be good for traffic - I think that would have been Bill McRhea who uses those plugins and wizards - just FYI -

I know what it was, the pinging in Wordpress can get you banned if you go back and edit your posts, it sends another ping every time and it shouldn't do that. They claim blogs are banned and the owners don't even know it - all because of the default ping setting in Wordpress which is probably true.

The Maxblogpress Ping Optimizer fixes that plus it's FREE too

RE: New Wordpress installations
I follow this procedure
http://www.ryantmalone.com/tips-and-tric...ress-blog/

It's fairly easy, once you've got used to it.
I keep a "blank" blog with plugins in a single zip file, and I have database(sql) file that has the data I always put in my sites (such as "About" page)

I just unzip the blog in my domain, create a new database, edit the wp-config file, and import the database.

RE: New Wordpress installations
This is supposed to be 250 of the best Wordpress Plugins that I haven't even un-zipped yet. I don't use Wordpress that much. I like websites better. Anyway, it would be nice to know if this really is what it claims to be. It's not an affiliate link and I don't think there are any surprise bonuses or upsells either. If there is some catch you find, please let me know.

Tongue Thanks and have a real great Wordpress time!

Thanks for sharing these plugins Smile But I had to remove the link as you are not authorized to give the archive for free. You can sell it though as you have master resale rights Wink

RE: New Wordpress installations
Confused Oops! That sucks but at least you know I wasn't making it up when I said I never even un-zipped it yet! I think that 250 sounds like way too much to deal with and now I can't even GIVE it away!!

Idea Oh well, I have a better idea for something even better! But I'll post that one under the JV Partner topic later on this afternoon!!

RE: New Wordpress installations
There's a Wordpress plugin called "Plugin Central"
I'll copy and paste the features:
" * Install plugins directly by typing the name of plugin or the URL to zip file!
* Multiple-plugin install feature allows you to move your plugins from one blog to another
* Displays status of plugins in need of update on the Dashboard
* Displays latest information form the plugin changelog
* Update all plugins at once with a single click "

Yes I think too, that this is the best procedure and the best about it is it is FREE.

But the quickest procedure which I discovered recently is using WP tool called WPTwin. It is really amazing tool and save so much of my precious time.
