Password Management System

Password Management System
Not really about IM, but when you do IM you spend lot of time logging into password protected sites.
Once I used to have one password for all sites.... very-very irresponsible approach...

I would like to ask savvy online veterans: what system do you use? the desktop installed or on web ? what about RoboForm? any other suggestion?

RE: Password Management System
LastPass is better than Roboform in my opinion and it offers more features in the free version. I have been using it for a few weeks and have been very happy with it.

Cheers!

RE: Password Management System
Never used or even heard from lastpass to be honest. But free is good and you say it's even better. Does it go accross platforms? Not just browsers but os?

RE: Password Management System
I believe so, it integrates with the browser, so I assume its cross platform. Really easy to use and it will autogenerate random passwords if you want. I like it!

RE: Password Management System
I have been using LastPass for about 8 months now and would be lost without it.
It is an awesome free utility that will sync across most browsers and platforms. It will also sync with many mobile devices but mobile option requires a premium account.

You are able to create different user profiles as well as multiple form fill profiles.
This is important if your computer is shared with the family.
All saved data is encrypted... password generator has many options.

Create and edit your own bookmark categories, auto login to any site you want with 1 click.
You can also add a secure note to any saved site. I love this feature for keeping track of my affiliate links.

Brilliant free productivity tool... I give it 5 stars Smile

RE: Password Management System
Thank you guys. Roboform has been good to me lately, but my license is just for two computers. So I'll give LastPass a run! Hopefully I can also use it on my linux box!

RE: Password Management System
Thank you all.
I'll use LastPass for my "non risky" passwords. I still afraid to give my PayPal or affiliate network password to some free service, and to store my passwords (even encrypted) on some external server...
But it can bee good solution for forum and tools passwords.

RE: Password Management System
Last Pass is great the premium option is very inexpensive and allows you to store all your info on a flash drive so you can use it on any pc.

Also you can use an on screen keyboard to evade keyloggers.

As mentioned above there are a lot of options in the free version but for a bit more flexibilty $12 a year for the premium option is hardly going to break the bank.

My 2 cents

RE: Password Management System
Can you import your roboform logins into Last Pass? I have a ton of them.

RE: Password Management System
Yes you can! Once you have installed the LastPass plugin, you can import your stored login data from your previous password manager.

They have a very good tutorial in the help files.

RE: Password Management System
Does it autosync like roboform?

I like the fact that roboform autosyncs then automatically updates on my other computers without having to do anything esle.

RE: Password Management System
All your sensitive data is encrypted locally.

All encryption/decryption occurs on your computer, not on the servers. This means that your sensitive data does not travel over the Internet and it never touches the servers, only the encrypted data does. The data is encrypted and sent as soon as you log out.
They use government-level encryption.

They use the same encryption algorithm that the US Government uses for top-secret data. Your encrypted data is meaningless to them and to everyone else without the decryption key (your email and Master Password combination).
Only you know the key to decrypt your data

Your encryption key is created from your email address and Master Password. Your Master Password is never sent to LastPass, only a one-way hash of your password when authenticating, which means that the components that make up your key remain local. This is why it is very important to remember your LastPass Master Password; they do not know it and without it your encrypted data is meaningless. LastPass also offers advanced security options that let you add more layers of protection.

There is also an onscreen keyboard option if you are concerned about keyloggers or otherwise unprotected browsing like an airport. etc...

As far as syncing goes... every time you login the most recent saved encrypted data is loaded. Doesn't matter what computer you are using. It is automatic...

Hope this helps

Chris

RE: Password Management System
wow, thanks .. i was thinking of getting one ...

$1 per month seems very cheap though! But Roboform is only a 1time payment though.

Partain, is there a reason not to use roboform and moving towards lastpass?

Looking forward for my 1st sales -> 10 sales -> 100 sales -> auto-pilot Smile can't wait!
