Offline Marketing means...

Hi guys,

I am still delving into the possibilities in this whole arena. Is this Offline section about taking your website into other areas such as advertising in local papers, free online ads, etc.? Does that work for people?

Traditional marketing is also referred to as "offline marketing". The term traditional simply means the "passing on" of something, such as beliefs, customs, or practices. So when you think of traditional marketing, you should comprehend that it consists of techniques and strategies that have been used for a very long time. In addition, you can think of its relative term, "offline marketing", as any method or means of promotion that does NOT include the internet.

Offline Marketing refers to an online marketer (like us) doing online marketing for a (usually) brick & mortar business.

An example would be "Annie's Seafood Restaurant" in the city of Chicago. You might approach Annie and tell her you are an internet marketer and that you can get her a ton of business from the internet. What you would do is use your IM skills to get her site ranking for such common but usually uncompetitive term like "seafood restaurant chicago".

In a nutshell that's it. It called offline marketing because you are dealing with people outside of the internet community. People that have no idea what goes on behind the scenes of the rankings in the search engines. For this reason you can charge a lot more than you might think and make some bank.

Well, there are 2 meanings for the term "offline marketing"

1) Is typically as you explained in your question - offline forms of advertising/marketing; such as newspapers, leaflet drops etc, that either get people to their physical location or to their website.

2) As Jack explained, you, as an online marketer target offline businesses (ones who either don't have an online presence, or do but are not utilizing it to it full potential) then using things like google places, search engine optimization, video engine optimization and a number of other tactics to either drive traffic to the site for a sale or to capture that lead.

Offline marketing is pretty powerful for lead generation, driving traffic to a site, or getting people in front of your offer.

Typically the offline pricing model is a lot more lucrative than the online marketing models and the mindset out there is that businesses will pay a lot more for these results. And is why a lot of internet marketers are making the switch, or adding it into the mix of what they do.

Well, offline marketing does refer to traditional advertising techniques.

However, with new emerging technologies, some of these forms of marketing have a chance to once again re-invent themselves in the mobile revolution; in what is quickly becoming a paperless world.

Leaflets, Brochures and Flyers are quickly becoming replaced by promotional products which can provide value and use by a potential customer.

Now with the ability to put digital barcodes, QR codes, website addresses and SMS codes on swag, marketers can link to anywhere on the world wide web.

Online means generate traffic, but offline means can too.

It's possibly a new effective shift in thinking as you can target your market more directly.

Internet marketing is like a whole other world that most offline marketers don't really tap into. There's so many other Internet techniques/strategies that only online marketers will know, so partnering with the offline people would be very beneficial. Just think of all the overhead cost from paper, labor, etc. for traditional marketing compared to IM.

Usually when you see someone refer to "offline marketing" on an "internet marketing" related forum/blog they are talking about doing the online marketing tasks for various businesses that are mainly focused on doing offline business.

For example, your local dry cleaning company would be considered an offline business. But they can still benefit greatly from having a website and top rankings for their keywords in your area. So, as an internet marketer, you can do those things for them and charge a significant fee.

It's funny how easily people forget even after only a few years. Nowadays there are a lot who ask "What is offline marketing?", and this really comes as a shock to those who have been in business for more than a decade. Offline marketing is basically just traditional marketing, any strategy implemented without the use of computers or the internet. It's a hard concept to visualize, especially now that even buying stuff can be done online, but offline marketing is really effective as well, and there was a time when it was the "in-thing" and not internet marketing. So what's offline marketing? It's basically online marketing, only it's not.
