Google Dance
Anyone knows how long usually a site stops dancing once it starts?

By google dancing I mean when it is on the 1st-3rd pages of Google for sometime and then suddenly disappear completely from the search engines before coming back again... not bouncing around from #5-#20 - #15

RE: Google Dance
Interesting question but i doubt you will get any answer.

Read similar questions before and your best approach is to continue building backlinks to your website and pray you will get back your spot.

Worrying won't help you at all.

Good luck.

kakaboo, apollo is right. It's not unusual for that to happen. Just keep building links and it WILL come back.

RE: Google Dance
ok.. im not really that worried (but i guess probably am a LITTLE lol since its my first site)

just that I have found similar qns before and found all the ranges to be different - some came back after few days, some few weeks, some few months and not even back + the indications for google dance is similar to the 'sandbox'...

RE: Google Dance
One important thing to keep in mind is that Google is on to people manipulating their rankings through forum links and the such. A good example is my recent acquisition of 30 .edu forum backlinks from abroad. My site slowly danced further and further down the SERPS; from page 1 all the way to page 5. When it reached page 5 I removed the backlinks and it was back to page 1 within 24 hours... Although some backlinks will invoke the Google dance, many others will not. Generally the higher PR sites will cause a 1-2 week dance effect before your site settles in.
I would strongly suggest building your backlinks slowly in groups -- watching the ultimate results -- before adding more. This way if you have any negative effects you will know what caused them and you can remove them.

that may or may not have something to do with ur .edu .gov backlinks.. it might have just been luck and your site stopped dancing at that particular time. and how can you actually remove your .edu .gov backlinks unless you have access to the articles you posted? I mean, most .edu/.gov links are blog comments/forum profiles/forum posts.. which cant be removed unless u are the owner of the site..

Plus I don't think Google really mind anyone manipulating their rankings AS LONG as your site is decent enough and provide good content... what they have problems with are crappy one-page review style sites that provide close to little to no value at all..

I mean, just look at how many tools they are providing for free for webmasters to track backlinks, traffic and so on.. sure they get sneaky information from you at the same time, but they probably already exactly know what you are doing

Actually the site I was linking to is PR3 and the domain is about 10 years old - a very reputable business. http://www.truckandautoelegance.com/

Not really certain why it drove the site 5 pages down the SERPS? I'm just fortunate to utilize a link-building campaign that is structured -- so I can undo bad results...

RE: Google Dance
"Google Dance" has often been used to describe the index update of the Google search engine. Google's index update occurred on average once per month. During an index update there was significant movement in search results and Google showed new backward links for pages.
well now accommodate your question with this.

RE: Google Dance
I don't even like to us the term "Google dance" For some reason my websites all disappear from the serps from time to time especially new ones. I don't know why it happens but it does. But they always come back, even if I do nothing. So don't try to look to hard for reasons for this, you'll drive yourself crazy. It just happens. And when your site comes back, it may dissappear again for a few more days. Just relax.

RE: Google Dance
It's actually quite maddening lol...I've actually read some articles that state that the phenomenon known as the "Google dance" ended a few years ago. If someone could clarify, I would be very interested.

But when your site disappears, you start trying to find all of the reasons that could have caused it. And sometimes there is no reason, it just bounces right back.

Well kakaboo now u have to wait and see . hope so your site is back and now i am replying to you. Google Dance start to show you that you are doing some thing unusual or just a simple and small warning by Google. If you noticed it soon you will be back soon but if you won't and ignore that then at the end result will be sand box too.

I have no idea what you are trying say. Could you please explain? I've heard it said that the "google dance" doesn't exist anymore. Could someone please clarify? I am very interested in this topic. Must say I feel a little bit like Google's bitch. Confused

RE: Google Dance
I have a site that's 3 years old and was consistently ranking #3 for it's keyword. Around Sept my site disappeared for about a month but it's back now!

I have another site that's been doing a dance for about 2 years. At one point the site was even de-indexed but the site is finally settling down now, #6 for the keyword. I think it's been dancing around because I had it set up as a BANS site but with a blog attached. I gave up on the site a long time ago because I got banned from Ebay's Partner Network.

Any thoughts on this article? http://webmaster-talk.eu/?action=article...;article=2

Is "Google dance" now just a generic term used whenever your ratings fluctuate?

Very curious...Smile

RE: Google Dance
Thanks for the link Infinity.

I guess the term "Google dance" means different things to different people. Very confusing when you're a newbie.

I just made some adjustments to my WP sites, and right now they're breakdancing. Wink

RE: Google Dance
How's this for a Google Dance?

I'm targeting 8 keywords for that site (Each has its own page) and all of them dance at the same time. As in, one day they'll all be on the first page, next time I check a week or so later they're all out to about 400-500. It's been happening for a few months now.

It's really weird and I'm not sure why it's happening with this site and with every page all at the same time, but it's interesting!
