Keyword Ranking on Google.com and Google.co.uk
Hi ,
I have recently been lucky enough to rank my main keyword, using Mo's excellent SEONUKING service, number 2 (wikipedia entry number 1) on Google.com. Now I wish to rank the same product highly on Google.co.uk but there is a complication. The keyword Brits use to find the product is different from what the US users would search for. Even though the product is the same the keywords are subtley different. To best illustrate this consider COKE, in the US people may search G.com for the diet version of Coke by entering the keyword "COKE LITE" whereas in the UK no one would ever search for "COKE LITE". They would all search for "Diet Coke". If I enter my UK focused keyword on G.com I also rank number 1 for it. However if I search for the same keyword on G.co.uk I am on page 2. The problem is that UK users will always search on G.co.uk by default. They will not see me unless they switch to G.com - which is unlikely. All my keywords link to back to my main authority site which is a .com site. I do not have a .co.uk and do not wish to create one as I have spent alot of time create valuable content for my authority site and don't wish to duplicate it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can increase the SERP ranking for my UK specific keyword using my .com site ? So, when someone in the UK enters the product KW on the Google.co.uk search page my .com authority site appears number 1 or on page 1 in the Google.co.uk results. I am basically looking for a method to rank my UK keywords on Google.co.uk pointing to my .com site. It has been suggested that I just setup a new site like my .com site but with a .co.uk domain just replacing the US Keywords with UK keywords. This is not something I want to do because it means duplicating effort + extra costs and fees - especially important if you only want to sell items from 1 online shop in 1 place. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated ! Thanks Carrara |

RE: Keyword Ranking on Google.com and Google.co.uk
I certainly don't think you need to set up a new site!
You simply need to build backlinks for both versions of the keyword. So in your example, if you rank well in the US for COKE LITE and want to rank in the UK for Diet Coke, just build backlinks for Diet Coke and you can rank in the UK. That's all there is to it. ![]() FYI. in the US we call it Diet Coke. ![]() Jack Oh and make sure you do some on page seo for the other version of the keyword too. Make sure you have the keyword in your content, tags, etc. Ultra Spinnable Articles | SEONuking | Commission Vantage | Rip Curl Commissions | Affiloblueprint |

Exactly what Jack said.

Just change the anchor text keywords leading to the site and keep building backlinks with those.

RE: Keyword Ranking on Google.com and Google.co.uk
I live in ireland and we often refer to products by the product name - so COKE LITE would be a viable keyword - the sublte difference I would see is the american spelling of words - e.g. licence (UK) and lisense (American)
also the use of z's and s's in words if it applies that is where i would see the problem ?? |

RE: Keyword Ranking on Google.com and Google.co.uk
I had to make a French Cooking School rank for the US and UK. Even cooking is different it is cookery. Holiday/vacation. So I seo'd the site for both sets of worlds. The z problem as in advertize is not so bad as both versions of spellings are in the Oxford UK Dictionary but using both spellings in one article is not difficult.
As I set out to do this from the start we had great success. Put both spellings and words in or use phrases such as " French cooking is a wonderful art to learn and via our cookery courses you will learn how to impress your dinner guests" That covered both countries search terms for cooking/cookery and I don't think would confuse. I don't drink coke and have no idea what the names are so cannot be much help there. I only drink Grey Dog which I think is the French version of Red Bull. Hope that helps |

RE: Keyword Ranking on Google.com and Google.co.uk
Just have to say, in the US we call it "diet" Coke, or coke "0" Even though there's alot of evidence it actually causes weight gain.
I know this isn't the point of the thread, but please don't drink that junk. Aspartame isn't a food, it's a chemical. Btw, yes...health is my niche.
