Domain monetization

Just curious how many here know alternate methods that work
I know allot people use domain parking but I have learned they
not only show bad results but steal income..

please share any advise to solo domains to a point income
currently learning to install WordPress, choosing basic theme
or as have found and not decided on a simple theme to place
advertising, also the many plugins. my focus is we create
working steps that are basic to help anyone get up and
running I.E. Hosting / I've chosen Hostgator to start with.
