How many links for web 2.0 sites

How many links for web 2.0 sites
Hello, about a month ago, Nik gave me some advice on generating targeted links from web 2.0 sites.

I currently have several blogs, lenses,... on Wordpress.com, Blogspot, and Squidoo.

Just one question, how may links can I put on those blogs or lenses, and still have the links be effective.

For example, I just published a Squidoo lens (about 700 words), it has 4 links in the text, and about 12 links in the link list module. Most are to home pages, but some are to internal pages I'm trying to rank. They are all to related subject material.

So will Google lessen the value of those links because all my free blogs link to all of my websites. Can it determine that? How many links are too many, at the end of some of my blogspot posts I will post a short list of "related articles" (maybe 10 links)

Am I degrading the value of my links, or setting up something google will penalize me for?

Thanks in advance.

RE: How many links for web 2.0 sites
The numbers of links isn't really going to hurt too much. But there are a couple of things you need to think about.

For one, in content links are very effective. Links in the footer, or in a list on a sidebar are not very effective. (This is something I've learned from Vita, not necessarily from my own experience.) So you'll want your most important ones within the articles content.

What you may need to worry about the most is having too many links for the web 2 site you are posting them on. Many of them like Hubpages and Wordpress.com frown on a bunch of links, especiall promotional in nature. They will delete your site in a hurry. This is definitely I've learned from experience.

RE: How many links for web 2.0 sites
Thanks for the reply PartainSr. Yes, I am a little more careful on wordpress.com. Their policies seem very arbitrary. If I can't put a link directly into an article, I'll sprinkle in 2 between blog posts, or put 5 or so at the end of a page. I know you can't guarentee anything, but how many did you have before they deleted your work? None of mine are promotional, just links to similar subject matter. But if they looked close, it wouldn't be hard to figure out I'm linking back to all the same sites.

One neat thing about Squidoo is their link list module. Your links are placed in with the text. I also put in a lengthy description for each link, so even though they're not really in context, at least they're surrounded by relavent content.

Thanks again.

yeah web 2.0 doesnt hurt, but sites like hubpages, on sugar and some others will simply ban your accounts if you post too many articles

RE: How many links for web 2.0 sites
Well, 10 links are too much.

Here are two things you need to consider:

1. Your web 2.0 properties will be deleted soon. I mean, 10 links are of course spam. I suggest using 3 links (in context) and maximum of 5 links.

2. Mathematically speaking, link juice of a page is inversely proportional to OBL (Out Bound Links), in layman terms, higher the OBL, lesser the link juice and lesser the OBL, higher the link juice.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response Mathis

Since I made the original post I have observed and refined some things.

I honestly don't think Squidoo gives a fat rats a$$ how many links you post. Blogger seems ok as long as you stay under the radar. WP.com...I don't know....right now I will put 1 or 2 links in a 400 word blog post. I don't know if that's ok or not. But it just looks like a regular blog.

I have a clever blog title, a nice tag line, a nice about page. The only way you would know it's an seo blog is if you hover over all of the links and then notice they point to similar websites.

Any advice would be appreciated, and I won't hold you responsible if I get banned lol...Big Grin

And btw, the link juice has been great. Wink

Edit-Squidoo will cut you off if you put more than 9 links to the same domain. But considering they have a module that is used for posting links only, I guess they're cool with it. But I don't use these as much becuase I like to put my links in paragraphs.

RE: How many links for web 2.0 sites
The number of links to your sites from the web 2.0 accounts will not hurt you in Googles spider's eyes. The web 2.0 sites will ban your accounts if all the links go to just one site.

Sprinkle in some links to authority sites such as wiki and the authority site of the root keyword.

RE: How many links for web 2.0 sites
It all depends. We tend top forget the guide lines set by most search engines. a post should be useful to the readers and usually a helpful post contain links to related resources that can help the reader even more.

Look at wikipedia and how many link each of their articles has. No wonder why almost 80% of wikipedia articles ranks on the 1st page for their related keywords.
