Creating An Authority Site - Your Suggestions Please

Hi Folks,

The purpose of this thread is to gather as much knowledge as possible on starting an "Authority Site".

I hope I'm using the term correctly. Here's what I mean by it:
a site like http://www.euserreviews.com that promotes specific products while at the same time building an archive of articles and a legacy of links.

While I've read about, and tried, the "www.productnamereview.com" strategy for several launches, after the launch, the energy I've invested doesn't pay back. Hence my "Duh!" moment... create an authority site.

Here are some specific questions I'd like your feedback on:

1. Would this model work in most niches that have sub niches?

For example: (NOT actual URLs)
+ http://www.trainyourdogreview.com would branch into:
- http://www.trainyourdogreview.com/bulldog
- http://www.trainyourdogreview.com/doberman
- http://www.trainyourdogreview.com/poodle

2. What is the best structure when using Wordpress?
- Use a separate page for each - http://www.trainyourdog.com/breed?
- Or a separate post?
- Or....?
Any other advice on structuring the site, especially things that would be helpful to implement when first setting up the site.

3. Is there a specific WP theme that is best suited to this type of site?

4. Specific plugins that you recommend?

5. Advice on choosing a domain name?
Judging by "www.euserreviews.com" the URL does not need to contain a general niche KW? Are there specific things to include in the site name/URL?

6. Good examples of this type of site (of course, http://www.euserreviews.com )

7. Any comments or advice you'd like to share that will help readers succeed with this type of project. (It's ok to repeat or emphasize things that Vita teaches in his training video series.)

I find structure to be dependent upon what you are ultimately trying to accomplish. Structure for the fun of it, in my opinion is a waste of time. I wish I actually knew what you are trying to do other than copy sites that are all ready established. I don't mean to dis respect you however, purpose is of most importance. You may find that any of your suggested formats will serve your purpose. You seem to know all ready what to do. Marketing ain't that difficult.

Thats a great start..I was using Gs related and wheel to find themes for silo website building and primary articles for my authority/money site. Glad to see I am on the right tract. I have also been looking at silo plugins I here Dan Raine is coming out with one soon, the others I have seen havent gotten good reviews.

I had the same questions as the original poster. I'm looking to make authoritative sites for only one reason, that is, to build solid long-term business. I've done PPC marketing using thing affiliate sites and I've done well. But let me tell you, those thin affiliate sites are don't work anymore Google doesn't like them and therefore, are very short lasting. Anyway, I've already learned some new tricks from PDf guide and can't wait for the complete version.

In addition to all the other suggestions, here are my 2 rules that will win you some GREAT results immediately!

When building an authority site, follow the LSI site structure STRICTLY and also includes lots of YouTube videos (preferrably your own but it doesn't matter)

LSI and YOUTUBE = Great Authority Sites

(but as I said, follow all other rules in the tread including aged domains and unique content)

Would love to see the rest of this pdf/video. I am curious how you selected the 5 themes that you did when there were 20 or so to choose from?
And then if you were to create some feeder sites (how many?) for the authority site how would you chose the main topic and themes for those sites?
Would you create a discount balling bowl site or maybe a custom bowling ball site and then drill down into those kws to find themes for that site?
Just wondering on the structure and organization- maybe these would all be money sites that supported each other?

I don't understand why Google has to "discriminate" other countries and do not allow "Related searches" to us. I have resorted to using anonymous website to get to USA and it was very slow.
