Theme Advice Needed

Hi everyone

I want to begin my own newspaper so I have downloaded a theme called Wp Advanced Newspaper Theme.

However I am having difficulties finding my way around. I want to add an image or video in the same place where you can see the Bank Of Scotland logo. Please bear in mind that this page is not from my site. I use this image for explanation only.



Because I dont know my way around the theme, I numbered the widgets to see how the theme was setup. This way, I can determine what goes where.

As you can see, I now know what area each widget controls

But its clear that the widgets do not populate the corner section, so I dont know what to do.

So...has anyone used WP Advanced Newspaper theme and could they explain to me what I need to do to populate the corner?.....and preferably direct me to a video cos I'm terrible at following written instructions.

Finally, this theme is all over the web as a free download and was given to me legitimately from another forum but Gabfire (who own the theme) say that because I have not bought the theme, then they cannot offer support. Here's the proof that it was free.

This section is for top stories. I can see that it has enough space for 6 top stories on there. The image you see there is the image that is inside the post where the story is. The theme automatically grabs the image + title and lists it there.

I don't know what all your options would be since I don't have this theme, so the only thing I can suggest is based on what I can see, and that is... the way of changing the image would be to create a post and have the image you want inside, and then listing it as one of the top 6 stories.

Other than this then perhaps manually editing the theme files to include an image or video, but this will remove the top stories functionality.

Yeah. That's the conclusion I came to. Its gotta be here somewhere but, blowed if I can find it. This theme is said to be extremely easy to set up so, I gotta be missing something somewhere.

Well, it seems I have stirred things up a bit. I posted this question elsewhere and looks like the theme may not be a free download after all.
You can see from the 4th image it says FREE

Someone who has bought the developer license has asked me to write to Gabfire to clarify the situation....is it free or not?

I like this theme so I will probably buy it for the support anyway.

I have written to Gabfire and will let you know.

Thank you very much for contacting us regarding this. Unfortunately, there are some who just share the themes for free but we can't do anything about it. You can certainly use the theme offered on that website. The only disadvantage you have when you take the free download over the paid one is that you don't get free theme upgrades and no help with customization or other theme related questions as only paid members get access to these features.

So there we are. I can use the theme and if I like it then I will certainly buy it. I have to say in all honesty that the support from Gabfire is quite superb. They have got back to me within a few hours. If this is typical of their support then buying a theme from them is a no brainer.

And as I will need as much help as possible I probably will.

I believe you have to set a post to a category called featured, then it grabs an image from that post (maybe its the featured image). I would simply replace it to grab from a custom field. Call the custom field something like video-url or similar, then go to wordpress and look up how to call a custom field..pretty easy..

After I bought the theme I had access to video tutorials that explained the whole setup.
It was quite an eye opener. The theme is very easy to organize once you know what to do.
