In this video I'm showing how to check the SEO competition level for any keyword - The right way -

You will understand why checking the keyword phrase between quotes is far from being accurate and why the number of competing pages is not that important.

Yay! It's finally out! I'm starting to make some notes for the videos so I can refer back to them. Thought other members would find it useful too, so I'll post them here too. And if I miss out any important points, feel free to point them out

How to Create Niche/Authority Websites
Part 5 - How to Analyze the Competiton

1. After completing the article topic selection, find keywords to target for article topics. For this, we have to consider the keyword competition. We can:

• target low competition keywords (quicker results)
• target high competition keywords (takes longer, but can get more traffic)
  

2. Checking the amount of competition for keyword phrase between quotes is not enough. Your true competition is the people on the first page of Google.

=> How to evaluate their strength? Open the first 10 sites on Google for the keyword and:

• Look at their articles. How related, informative content, and high Pagerank are they?
• Are they optimized for the keyword? Are they giving enough information on the topic?
  

=> After looking at their sites, if you feel confident that you can build a better website than one of the top 10, then you can continue. You will need good backlinks.

• If your site structure is good, you can rank better than sites with bad structure and a lot of backlinks.
  

3. In the example in the video, the top ranking website for "how to dress a cow" does not have the exact keyword phrase "how to dress a cow", but it can still rank higher than eHow.com that is optimized for the phrase. Why?
*Because they have a good structure, with relevant categories for the topics.

• We have to show Google that we are an authority site by having relevant categories for our topics
  

4. Look at your article topic keywords and make sure they are not too high competition. Find rankable keywords for each topic.

• We can do this by using Keyword Elite's Search Engine Domination module. Look for green tick marks that say you can go.

Haha...this Cow example is so hilarious..LOL . But yes, with this you showed us very very well the difference between an authority website and a less relevant website.

I was glad to stumble on this site during some research

That's sad for eHow.com because their page is much more relevant to the search term I entered than the other site... This example shows that the google algorithm is not perfect yet, and that's why I have selected the 2 little bit offtopic categories for my GPS site (audio and dvd systems).

I'm confused... Categories for your site: audio and dvd systems? Is there a part two for this video (How to analyze the competition)? Or are you just teasing us with what is coming next...

Hi Derek,

I have found that the best way to have someone take action is by showing proof that the system works, this is why I don't hesitate to show everything.

Even my failures, it has happened in other video series

Cows . .I would never have believed that they would have that many searches a month! HA - excellent video. Looking at it the way you taught - in that you can get onto page 1 by analyzing the first page of Google . .it seems a little more do-able - it seems like so many niches are saturated and you have to dig deeper and deeper . .BUT . .this opens up new possibilities as not everyone optimizes - thanks
