Best traffic tracker?
Hi all,
I am trying to find the best traffic tracker. I have used Analytics for a while now, but I have learned that they aren't always stable. I am only looking for free trackers. Anyone suggest one that is free and really easy to use? Thanks in advance. |

RE: Best traffic tracker?
You might want to check out statcounter.com. I am currently not using analytics as I had one marketer mention that if you're running a lot of sites through G-analytics and they find one site they don't like they can easily track and shut down all your sites. Google is definitely the double-edged sword.

RE: Best traffic tracker?
statcounter.com is good and I use it combined with the old web hosting's awstats for the domain to give a bigger picture of my traffic.

Google is definitely the double-edged sword. That is exactly one of the reasons I am looking for something else. In fact, I am really trying to get to the point that I only use Google anything if I have to. I have seen G do too many things that are bad for marketers on a whim, with no explanation. Thanks! |

Very extensive tracking. Easy to install and just stick some code in your header.php file if you're using WordPress. jack |

RE: Best traffic tracker?
Hello, OP!
I would recommend Piwik (open source). It's a good replacement for GA and you can run it from a shared hosting account without hogging the server. One note though, be careful when setting it up and use secure passwords, then secure the permissions on the server as well. 2c about GA - they can impact your Google ranking negatively because of the bounce rate, especially when you are driving low quality traffic which leaves the website after 1 page. I had proof for myself, not sure if anyone else noticed this. |

RE: Best traffic tracker?
When I first started out learning about IM I used Goo Anal. I didn't realize that they were so quirky until I installed a second tracker on one of my older sites.
I have actually seen Piwik, and I can't remember now why it didn't work for me. I loved the structure, but I could not get it to work properly. I am sure it is operator error...lol. I did find a plug-in called myStat that I put on to see how it worked. Not sure I like the interface. I will try the other plug-in that VV suggests and see how it works. Thanks for all your suggestions! |

RE: Best traffic tracker?
I think I've watched a video that did some testing on the different trackers before, and the results were that no tracker is 100% accurate. They always miss some here and there... Apart from Analytics, you can probably check your traffic from your hosting control panel. I'm using Host Gator, and they seem to be tracking my traffic too and have a stats page for it in the CP. I seldom use it though...

Right now, I've been using http://www.google.com/analytics/ I've been pretty happy with them. I haven't tried anything else, but they are pretty accurate.

RE: Best traffic tracker?
Ya I know about Piwik analytics. In Piwik, reports are by default generated in real time. It is installed on your server, the data is stored in your own database and you can get all the statistics using the powerful Piwik analytics.

RE: Best traffic tracker?
Here's another vote for statcounter. The best thing about it is that it also tracks clickouts from your site (useful to know if you are trying to optimise conversions on different products)
