New keyword research technique
Here's a new way of finding loads of keyword ideas. (Sorry if you're all using it already!)

Go to http://www.google.com/sktool/#keywords and drop in a few basic keywords and see what you get! You can also browse categories and you start to get loads of ideas! ]

This seems to be a much quicker way of finding actual search based results.

What I'm going to do is export a whole bunch and run them through Market Samurai and SEnuke batch research to see if there are any nuggets to be found.

Let me know if you can use this in an better way than this -- I'm always learning

Has anyone used google's new "wonder wheel" yet? Next time when you do a search, click "show options" on the top left hand corner under the search bar and click "wonder wheel".

Very interesting. You can also be more specific of what type of search you do.

RE: New keyword research technique
Thanks for the 2 great info!

The wonder wheel is perfect for building TOP ranking niche websites.
I love it!

Google tells us EXACTLY what the most relevant topics are for a specific keyword.

Let's say you want to build a website about weight loss for example, so your main topic is very broad: "weight loss"

Enter this keyword phrase into the hotwheel and you get:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&clien...PsWhs6zHoc

What do you do with this information?

You take all the topics found by google and you add those categories to your website.

So from your homepage the visitor could access those categories:
  • how to lose weight
  • bmi
  • diets
  • weight loss tips
  • fast weight loss
  • weight loss exercise
  • weight loss calculator
  • weight loss supplements
  • how to lose weight

Then for each of these categories you can expand even more and create subcategories...

Let's click on "diets" for example. This gives us a list of related categories that we would use as a sub category of the diets main category.

This gives us a PERFECT siloed website. The kind of website that google would find ultra relevant to the "weight loss" broad keyword.

Add to that some backlinks to all of your articles and you have a winner!

I am sorry if this is a very silly question, but there is no "show options" on my google. And if it is hidden, then I don't know how to make it visible. Anyone can help?

On my Firefox browser, it is right above the very first result on a Google search. It took me a while to find it too the first time! I have attached an image.

Yes it does. As SaSh showed thanks to his screenshot, the option is accessible from the google results page, so you can use the wonder wheel no matter which internet broswer you're using.

Thanks llyndonium! It is still not to be found on my google, but I eventually discovered it on the international google page (I usually use either a german or mexican google, and it is definitely not there...).

RE: New keyword research technique
Once you have a list of your most valuable keywords, you can use this technique to determine which keywords have high search volumes and a low number of content creators.

The Demand
The people searching, or the demand, this is your market. When the demand is high — when there are many people searching for a keyword, you have an opportunity for larger amounts of traffic.

The Supply
The people creating content, the supply, this is your competition. When you have a lot of competition, you will have a more difficult time achieving good search engine rankings and standing out in the list when you do get good rankings.

This is taken from Google Help:

Quote:How does the Search-based Keyword Tool differ from the Keyword Tool in AdWords?

The main difference between the Search-based Keyword Tool and the Keyword Tool currently in AdWords is that the former generates keyword ideas based on your website, and identifies those currently not being used in your AdWords account. Additionally, the Search-based Keyword Tool provides more detailed data for each keyword, such as category information, suggested bid that may place the ad in the top three spots of a search results page, and ad/search share. Both tools, however, offer the option of browsing all keywords across all categories.

You may also notice that some of the data (like such as the monthly search volume) may vary slightly between the two tools, which is due to different methods of calculation at this time.

Now I think that this is because the adwords keywords tool takes the search partners into account. There are several websites that use the google engine to display their search results. Like ezinearticles for example.

While the other google tool "might" take only the searches performed on google itself into consideration.

That's just a thought though...

RE: New keyword research technique
As I am reading and learning SEO, without yet subscribing to high priced SEO services, this is the most important aspect governing quality score. You avoid having a jumbled architecture on your website(s) and instead are developing a themed website from the ground up. Google gives more weight to silos and supporting pages that remain true to a topic while simultaneously receiving quality inbound links with theme related keyword hypertext from websites that also have the overall targeted topic or theme. Well themed websites have a much easier time having a high page rank value with their off-page link building strategy because of the way Google is recognizing reliable source websites.
