Keyword in post title or site name?
Hello everyone! I have watched and read Vita Vee's From 0 to Profits and Mark Ling's Affiloblueprint 2.0 and Affilorama premium.
There's a clash of opinions it seems. Vita Vee tells you to use headspace 2.0 plugin for wordpress to write your keyword (the word you're trying to rank high for) in the Site name and then a random phrase like YOU HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT! in your page title. I have done this but now I think this was wrong. Mark Ling and other SEO people say that it's good for your rankings if your keyword is in the page title, this is confired when using market samurai, it looks if the keyword is in the page title. And since I've done what Vita Vee preaches and put the keyword in site name, I get lower score in market samurai and traffic travis. Now I was wondering if it's just that I've misunderstood something or if Vita Vee made a little mistake? Many thanks! |

RE: Keyword in post title or site name?
I would if I didn't have serious doubts. This is because of what many other IM gurus are saying and even Market Samurai! If Market Samurai is telling me I'm doing it wrong, I'm starting to hesitate.

RE: Keyword in post title or site name?
Hi Snikaclick
I think you didn't understand well my point. I'm not saying that you should not use the keyword in your title. I'm using it myself. What causes your misunderstanding I think is that with headspace 2 (and other similar plugins) we have 2 fields to control the title: the site name + the page title. But those 2 fields are appended together to form 1 single element: the "title tag" that is going to be displayed in the title bar of your browser and in the listings of the search engines. So with this plugin no matter if you use your keyword in the site name field or in the page title, it will end up being used in your title tag. If you look at the way I do it I always have my keyword at the beginning of the title tag (the site name) followed by a catchy sub title to try to get as many clicks as possible from the searchers. If you were searching on google for "cpa tsunami" for example. Would you rather click on a listing that says: "CPA Tsunami Review|CPA Tsunami Bonus" or "CPA TSUNAMI REVIEW » Why Do They Say It's Good?!" SEO DONE FOR YOU - Real People, Real Success... RE: Keyword in post title or site name?
Hi Vita_Vee and as always, thank you for your quick replies. I have but the uttermost respect for you. I understand what you are saying and this is exactly where my confusing lies.
As in your example "CPA TSUNAMI REVIEW » Why Do They Say It's Good?!" if your keyword is "CPA TSUNAMI REVIEW", you have now entered it into the Site name, correct? and "WHY DO THEY SAY IT'S GOOD?!" into Page title, correct? This means that "CPA TSUNAMI REVIEW will not be in the "page title" and this is where my problem is because from where I have learned SEO (Mark Ling and Market Samurai) they say you should have your keyword (CPA TSUNAMI REVIEW in this case) in your Page title for SEO benefits. And if I do it like you say, I will not have it there. Instead, the Page title will contain "WHY DO THEY SAY IT'S GOOD?!" in the page title. And as I've understood it, this is suboptimal for SEO purposes. |

Hi Snikaclick,
I think that you are misunderstanding what Vita has said (02-13-2010 06:49 PM)Vita_Vee Wrote: What causes your misunderstanding I think is that with headspace 2 (and other similar plugins) we have 2 fields to control the title: the site name + the page title. perhaps if I rephrase it a little - what will appear in the html "< title >" tag, will be the Headspace 2 site name + the Headspace 2 page title (which is different from the post title). What Mark Ling and other SEO "experts" are calling page title is the html "< title >" tag and not the Headspace 2 page title, which is only one part of the "< title >" tag. So from an SEO point of view your keyword which is entered in the headspace "site name" field will be the first phrase/words in your "< title >" tag, and the Headspace 2 "page title" will appear as the second phrase of your "< title >" tag. If you have Market Samurai then just do an SEO Competition analysis for "Affiliate Millionaire" and you will see that Vita and his "apprentices" sites all have pink Y's for the keyword in the title, URL, Desc and Head. Just follow Vita's advice and you can't go wrong - his results are proof positive that his methods work. John I recommend:

RE: Keyword in post title or site name?
Coolykid, thank you for helping out and I think I have localized the problem. You're saying that
"what will appear in the html "< title >" tag, will be the Headspace 2 site name + the Headspace 2 page title " and this would explain everything. However , this is not the case for me. The only thing showing up in my < tittle > tag is the headspace 2 page title where I've written something like "the top 3 advice" and as such, my keyword doesn't show up there and market samurai and other tools tell me I haven't got the keyword in the title. How do you make it so that both the page title and site name in headspace 2 appear in the < title > tag? |

You will need to look at your header.php file for the following code (or something similar): Code: <title>John I recommend:

RE: Keyword in post title or site name?
Hi Coolykid!
I'm using an artisteer generated wp theme. The code I have in my header.php is somewhat different though: <title><?php if (is_home () ) { bloginfo('name'); } elseif ( is_category() ) { single_cat_title(); echo ' - ' ; bloginfo('name'); } elseif (is_single() ) { single_post_title(); } elseif (is_page() ) { bloginfo('name'); echo ': '; single_post_title(); } else { wp_title('',true); } ?></title> should I replace it with what you wrote? Thank you very much! Snikclick |

"CPA Tsunami Review|CPA Tsunami Bonus" or "CPA TSUNAMI REVIEW » Why Do They Say It's Good?!" brought it all together for me and solidified some issues i too have been having with title tags. thanks |

RE: Keyword in post title or site name?
Hi Snikaclick,
Sorry about that, it is in a Private members forum - I could copy and paste the code here, but as it appears in one of Vita's private forums I am not sure if I am permitted to do that. Perhaps once Vita sees these posts he will paste it here for you. John I recommend:

RE: Keyword in post title or site name?
Thanks a lot guys for clearing this out. It all came back to a php scripting problem in my artisteer template, I would never have guessed.
Thank you John and thank you Vita_Vee! <b> Also, I found out 2 other annoying settings I would like to share with you guys </b> <b>1.</b> In the All in One SEO settings in your admin panel in wordpress, the "post title format" is by default: %post_title% | %blog_title% and if you want it to say Sitename > Page title as in "Keyword" > "Random phrase" ex. if your keyword is "Stop dog digging": Stop dig digging > THE 4 BEST TIPS you want to change this setting to %blog_title% | %post_title% <b>2.</b> If you have both Headspace2 and All in one SEO installed, you may be experiencing a conflict. I installed Headspace2 and then All in one SEO because I wanted the keyword module from All in one SEO and couldn't get the one from Headspace2 working. Now, there are 2 settings in All in One SEO you need to change if you want your manually entered keywords and description to actually show up. The first is to untick "Dynamically Generate Keywords for Posts Page:" And the second is to untick "Autogenerate Descriptions" /Snikaclick |
